Reuse and Recycle your coffee grounds

Reuse and recycle your spent coffee grounds as a fertilizer, scrub, cleaner and airfresher

We are all about reduce, reuse and recycle wherever you can. We believe that a conscious awareness of the environment and our daily impact is more important now than ever. In keeping with this - did you know that coffee grounds do not need to be disposed of right after your brew? They can be reused, and we don't mean brew it again for another cup! There are plenty of ways to reuse spent coffee grounds around the house. Here are some simple ideas:

Give back to the earth
Coffee grounds are rich in nitrogen, which makes them a good fertilizer for green leafy plants. So the next time you brew a cup of coffee, toss the used grounds into your potted plant or garden. Your plants will thank you!

(Note:- The nitrogen in the used grounds makes them an effective fertilizer only for leafy plants. We do not recommend using them on flowering plants.)

Homemade spa

Coffee grounds make for an excellent homemade scrub that exfoliates, rehydrates and rejuvenates your skin. Dry your brewed coffee grounds, add brown or coconut sugar and unrefined coconut oil (melted and cooled, but not solidified), in the ratio of 2:2:1. Mix all the ingredients well and store in an airtight container. You can mix in a few drops of vanilla or any other essential oil for some added aromatherapy. Enjoy it in the shower!

Scrub pans clean

Spent coffee grounds are acidic and abrasive. They make an excellent cleaning companion for those gunky pans. Soak the pan in hot water for 30 mins and then gently rub the grounds on the pan to clean residue and stains. You’ll be looking at sparkling clean pans in no time - all without the use of chemical abrasives.

Absorb odors from - everywhere

Coffee is porous and that makes it an excellent odor neutralizer, for the fridge, the car and even your trash can! Place the used dried ground in a low flat plastic container with a lot of holes. Put this container into the ‘smelly’ place in question and let it work its magic.

Once you’ve used and reused your grounds to get all you can out of them, toss them into the compost or trash if compost is not an option.

Remember, get the most out of your coffee by reusing NOT re-brewing it. For great tasting cups of coffee rely on Kaveri Coffee for quality and fresh deliveries. We believe coffee can be people friendly, and a friend to the planet too.
